SACRAMENTO, CA, February 17, 2005 – Hansen Information Technologies (Hansen®) today announced a strategic alliance with Pacific Consultants Co., Ltd., (PCKK), Japan's largest consulting firm, to translate, market, and license Hansen 8's XML-based solution in Japan.

Mr. Tamio Araki, President of PCKK and Chuck Hansen, Chairman of Hansen, met earlier today in Tokyo to discuss the launch of Hansen's solutions in Japan, where PCKK has 60 offices.

"We are deeply honored to be working with the prestigious firm of PCKK to help serve the Japanese public infrastructure management market," said Hansen. "Our partnership combines one of the most respected names in the Japanese engineering and design market with the world's leading provider of government infrastructure management applications based on XML technologies."

"Infrastructure management has become an important challenge in Japan," said Tamio Araki, President of PCKK. "By combining our knowledge of Japanese business workflows and localization skills to create a Japanese version of Hansen, we can help our clients manage their critical public infrastructure for national, prefectural, and municipal governments."

As part of its agreement with Hansen, PCKK will localize all aspects of Hansen 8, including user interface, help messages, online documentation, content, and training manuals.

With a population of 127 million people, Japan represents one of the largest economies of the world, second only to the United States. Covering a land area slightly smaller than the State of California, Japan is one of the most densely populated, yet rapidly aging countries of the world. Divided into 47 administrative bodies, or Prefectures, Japan has over a dozen cities with populations of over 1 million. Today, metropolitan Tokyo is home to over 20 million people. Japan has nearly 800,000 miles of roads, more than 83% of which are managed by municipal governments.

PCKK is the largest consulting firm in Japan and the fifth largest pure design firm in the world. Founded in 1951, PCKK has over 1,300 staff in Japan providing integrated construction consulting, engineering, and infrastructure design services.

Due to growing demand for tools to help manage the business of government, Hansen's agreement with PCKK includes licensing of the following Hansen 8 XML solutions:
  • Asset Management & Valuation
    • Buildings & Facilities
    • Plant & Equipment
    • Railways
    • Roadway & Pavement
    • Streets
    • Water Distribution
